I recently received into the workshop a Bernina sport 801 sewing machine for a full service.

Bernina Sport 801 sewing machine :

These are great machines, and pretty much bullet proof in my opinion! They are nice and compact, which is ideal for taking to lessons and courses, and produce a very good stitch. As usual i open up the machine to inspect all of its parts and run a test stitch to check all the zig zag movements are fully operational. The shuttle area was very dirty so this received a good cleanup. Any debris in this area can affect the smooth running of the thread and therefore you end up with stitching issues. In the photos you can see the stitching from the machine, front and back, and as a result the tension is beautifully balanced (even if i say so myself!)

My bernina 801 bought in 1980 is in excellent working order. The only thing that doesn’t work is the free feed control. There is a small loose metal spring that has come off. My service agent would like to know where to fit it back so that the feed control will work again.
I live in colombo, sri lanka so I don’t have a bernina agent here.
The machine works well. Just the free sewing control for applique or quilting.
I can send tou a photograph of the spring. Look forward to some advice.

Thank you for sending me a very useful photograph of how the spring can be fitted back.

I now have a new problem the machine was oiled and serviced and worked well but today it started to squeak and now the motor which is usually beautifully silent started making a very loud sound.
I live in sri lanka and there is no berninaagent here.

Today I had a local machine mechanic open my machine. He says the problem is the motor. Do you know if I can buy a new motor for the bernina 801 sport in the UK. Even a second hand one in working order will do. The motor has stopped pulling a load. Its slow and very noisy.
I look forward to your reply.
